Ready Picked Blueberries
Our harvest season generally runs from early July until mid September, very much dependent on weather conditions in the Spring. We are normally in peak season during the last week of July and the first week in August.
You can also purchase our fruit by visiting us here at the farm, where freshly picked berries are always in stock from the nursery or the PYO hut.
Most of our crop is marketed as organic fruit, having completed the lengthy conversion period in the plantations and a rigorous annual inspection by The Soil Association, who check all of our records to ensure that no artificial pesticides or fertilisers are used on our organic plantations. We also have several hectares of conventional fruit, which are mainly younger plants, on which more conventional cultivation techniques are practiced.
Our fruit is all harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality is maintained through the season. Quality is constantly checked during harvest and the fruit is cooled to 4C within 2 hours of picking. Normally a punnet takes between 24 and 48 hours from field to shop.
Up until the fantastic health benefits of blueberries were widely publicised, we were able to supply 100% of M&S total summer blueberry requirement, nationwide. Due to the explosion in the popularity of blueberries in recent years, our fruit is now joined by many other UK growers and also fruit from Poland and the rest of the EU.
Our berries are picked, graded and packed to the highest possible standards, put in front of a tasting panel every week and despatched to regional depots 7 days a week.
